Kiwi ingenuity doesn’t limit us to New Zealand, and some of the work done by our subsidiary Whisper Tech is providing some innovative technology on our shores and in other markets world-wide. It’s interesting to note that the Joint Venture that produces WhisperGens in Spain represents New Zealand’s largest single investment in the Spanish economy.

Whisper Tech has developed WhisperGen™, a Stirling engine-based micro combined heat and power (microCHP) system that is a smarter way to provide home heat and power with the added benefit of reduced environmental impact. EFI was established in 2000 when Meridian saw an opportunity to provide on-site and other utility services to industry improving energy efficiency and managing external fuel supply. We invest in EFI because it promotes more sustainable use of our product by enabling efficiency gains in industrial businesses by working with optimal solutions that reduce impacts on the environment and provide more cost-effective outcomes for our customers. Cleantech America
In 2009 Meridian purchased Cleantech America, a San Francisco based solar Photo Voltaic (PV) development company and is nearly finished constructing a 5 MW solar PV farm in Mendota California. Cleantech America is now 100% owned by Meridian Energy.
The uptake of solar technology for electricity generation is happening quickly. Internationally there is over 20 GW of solar PV facilities installed or under production. We believe expanding into utility scale solar generation will keep Meridian on the innovative edge of clean technology.
