Meridian – committed to renewable energy

Meridian is the largest state-owned electricity generator in New Zealand.

At Meridian, we take our responsibilities to New Zealand and the environment very seriously. We own, operate and generate electricity from hydro stations on the Waitaki River in the South Island and at Lake Manapouri in Fiordland National Park.

We also have two wind farms one near Palmerston North (Te Apiti) and the other near Mossburn in Southland (White Hill). In April 2009 we will begin generating electricity from turbines at our new world-class wind farm development at Makara, Wellington (West Wind).

In our approach to long term development, we are committed to meeting our share of the growing electricity demands of New Zealanders.
