Always looking to stay at the competitive edge of clean technology innovation Meridian has identified that electricity generated from the sun was nearing the stage when it would be competitive with other forms of electricity generation.
In many areas of the world we expect this to have happened by 2015. This is happening at a faster rate than marine energy – internationally there are over 20GW of solar Photo Voltaic (PV) facilities installed or under production compared with less than 0.1GW for marine.
Meridian has acted on this assessment by purchasing Cleantech America, a San Francisco based solar PV Development Company and by financing the construction of a 5MW solar PV farm in Mendota California, which is now nearly completed.
As we believe that people are above all the key to success we have ensured that Meridian people have as much exposure as possible to this entry platform into solar PV markets. We now intend to bring the skills and experience gained in supplying electricity generated from the sun into a gird system back home – to New Zealand, Australia and the diesel dependent South Pacific.
