Meridian Energy Ltd is seeking resource consents to increase the maximum allowable discharge through the Manapouri Power Station to Deep Cove in Doubtful Sound (the Manapouri Tailrace Amended Discharge project - “MTAD”).
Overall the power station will discharge an additional 2.6%, when natural conditions such as rainfall allow it.
MTAD would generate on average an additional 89GWh each year, which is enough to power about 11,000 average households.
A resource consent application has been lodged with Environment Southland and at this stage we expect a hearing to begin in August.
