Gravel Extraction

Meridian Energy has applied for resource consent to remove and process gravel from the Oteranga Stream and flood plain to use as roading and draining aggregate on Project West Wind’s internal roading network.

The proposed works will allow a reduction of truck movements on Karori and Makara roads during construction and will revitalise the stream bed and the ecology of the stream.

Oteranga Bay wharf

.

Meridian has applied for a change of consent conditions relating to its proposed wharf at Oteranga Bay where the turbine components will be landed.  This is the result of detailed design work carried out during the past two years since the original resource consents were sought and consultation with Transpower relating to the HVDC electricity cables which are located in Oteranga Bay.

(This change of consent conditions was granted by the Greater Wellington Regional Council on 17 August and by the Wellington City Council on 21 August 2007)

Overall, the proposed design will have no more than minor effects and in some instances will result in fewer effects than the consented option:

• While the elevated area of the temporary wharf will be increased, the actual footprint on the seabed and foreshore will be substantially reduced when compared with the consented works.
•  The realigned access road will now pass through an area which has already been modified, rather than crossing Oteranga Bay beach close to the urupa.
