Prize-winning fish pass
Our resource consents required the construction of a fish pass at the Manapouri lake control structure to provide passage for trout from the lower Waiau River to the Mararoa River and Lake Manapouri.

The Waiau River is a renowned fisheries resource, and the development of the fish pass at the lake control structure enhances the overall river system as well as the Waiau and Mararoa catchments above the structure.
The pass - designed by Worleys Consultants - cost about $1.5 million; it is one of the few fish passes in the country that operates effectively with the minimum of maintenance.
It won a merit award from the Association of Consulting Engineers New Zealand (ACENZ) at its 1999 conference.
