Local network companies provide the lines that carry electricity from the national grid to your site. They're responsible for providing network services – in other words, maintaining the local lines and making sure power reaches you.
To save you time and the inconvenience of multiple contact points, in most cases Meridian Energy manages the day-to-day interface between you and the Network Companies. This includes network agreements and billing for network service charges.
In some cases the network company will have a direct contractual relationship with you to convey electricity, but generally we will be your first point of contact. Meridian Energy has Use of Systems agreements with all local network companies. These agreements cover the provision of network services to your sites. We negotiate them at no charge to you.
We are also involved in ongoing work in partnership with the network companies to raise overall standards and quality of electricity delivery to customers.
In most cases we manage the billing and administration of network company charges for you. Network charges are clearly identified in your invoice and we pass them on (and pay them on your behalf) at no additional cost.
Transpower New Zealand Limited own and operate New Zealand's high voltage electricity transmission grid linking generators to network companies. This consists of over 12,600 km of line deployed along the backbone of the country.
Transpower's charges for its services are clearly identified in your invoice and we pass them on to you (and pay them on your behalf) at no extra charge.
