The Hurunui project is a proposed 33-turbine wind farm between Omihi and Greta Valley in North Canterbury.
The wind farm would generate up to 75.9 megawatts, producing enough electricity each year for about 35,000 average New Zealand homes.
Meridian applied for resource consents in February 2011 for a 33-turbine wind farm between Omihi and Greta Valley in North Canterbury. This project is known as Hurunui Wind.
In August 2011, we filed a notice of motion requesting that the resource consent application be determined by the Environment Court.
If we gain consent to build Hurunui, we intend to set up a fund to support local projects in the communities near the wind farm.

Where possible, we’ll use local suppliers to help develop the wind farm. We’ll need up to four full-time staff to operate and manage the wind farm once it’s operational.
