Mt Munro project is a proposed wind farm in the area south of Eketahuna.
The wind farm would generate up to 60 megawatts, producing enough electricity each year for about 31,000 average New Zealand homes.
The area around Eketahuna is known to be windy, and Project Mt Munro has been chosen by Meridian because of its strong, consistent wind speeds, making it ideal for electricity generation.
Further open days will be held at the Mt Munro Information Centre in the Herbert Building, 32 Main St Eketahuna on:
Thursday, 1 March 10am – 7pm
Friday, 2 March 10am – 7pm
Saturday, 3 March 9am – 1pm.
In July 2011 we began discussing the wind farm proposal with neighbours living next to the site.
In October 2011 an information centre was set up in Eketahuna to enable the wider community to learn more about the proposal.
Resource consents were lodged with the four councils in January 2012 and notified in early February 2012. Submissions close on 6 March 2012.
If we gain consent to build Project Mt Munro, we intend to set up a fund to support local projects in the communities near the wind farm.

Where possible, we’ll use local contractors to help develop the wind farm, and we’ll need up to four full-time staff to operate and manage the wind farm once it’s operational.
