Our people represent one of the best knowledge bases in the business. We manage the electricity supply for a number of important businesses. As a Meridian Energy corporate customer, you benefit from access to:
Network service management
Network services Local network companies provide the lines that carry electricity from the national grid to your site. They're responsible for providing network services – in other words, maintaining the local lines and making sure power reaches you. To save you time and the inconvenience of multiple contact points, in most cases Meridian Energy manages the day-to-day interface between you and the Network Companies. This includes network agreements and billing for network service charges.
Network agreements In some cases the network company will have a direct contractual relationship with you to convey electricity, but generally we will be your first point of contact. Meridian Energy has Use of Systems agreements with all local network companies. These agreements cover the provision of network services to your sites. We negotiate them at no charge to you. We're also involved in ongoing work in partnership with the network companies to raise overall standards and quality of electricity delivery to customers.
Network charges In most cases we manage the billing and administration of network company charges for you. Network charges are clearly identified in your invoice and we pass them on (and pay them on your behalf) at no additional cost.
Transmission services Transpower New Zealand Limited own and operate New Zealand's high voltage electricity transmission grid linking generators to network companies. This consists of over 12,600 km of line deployed along the backbone of the country. Transpower's charges for its services are clearly identified in your invoice and we pass them on to you (and pay them on your behalf) at no extra charge.
A good power factor can benefit your business by reducing associated network charges.Power factor is a measurement of how effectively power is being used and is calculated by comparing the ‘apparent power’, which is the amount of power that flows through the lines to your electrical equipment, to the ‘active power’, which is the actual amount of working power used. Non-working, unproductive power is also used by the equipment and is called ‘reactive power’. Reactive power should ideally be supplied by on-site power factor correction equipment to help improve your business power factor.
Improving your power factor is good for your business. A higher power factor can:
