Meridian Energy monthly operating report for April 2017

Meridian Energy has released its monthly operating report for the month of April 2017 (PDF 2.0MB).

Highlights this month include:

  • In the month to 9 May 2017, national hydro storage decreased from 95% to 90% of historical average
  • South Island storage sat at 78% of average and North Island storage at 194% of average on 9 May 2017
  • Meridian’s April 2017 monthly total inflows were 57% of historical average
  • Meridian’s Waitaki catchment storage at the end of April 2017 was 87% of historical average
  • April inflows into Meridian’s Waiau catchment were the second lowest April month on record, following the lowest March inflows on record last month
  • Lake storage in that catchment remains low
  • National electricity demand in April 2017 was 0.5% higher than the same month last year
  • Tropical moisture saw prolific rainfall to the North Island and eastern South Island and low rainfall in the south and west of the South Island
  • Irrigation load in the eastern South Island was lower than April 2016
  • Meridian’s retail sales volumes in April 2017 increased by 8.6% compared to April 2016
