Free health insurance and discounted rates for whānau

Meridian provides a free medical insurance offer to all eligible employees. You’ll be able to add immediate family members (with a discounted rate) or opt for a higher level of cover.

Life, critical illness and income protection insurance

Meridian provides free personal insurance cover for permanent (and some fixed term) employees, giving you some peace of mind when you need it most. For most eligible people, the standard cover is automatic, and without the need for any medical declaration. The insurance policies provide a payment in the event of an eligible employee’s death, terminal illness, or critical illness; and provide some income protection for up to two years in the event of long-term illness.

Supportive wellbeing leave

When it comes to sick leave, and time off for other wellness reasons, Meridian goes well beyond legislative requirements. We acknowledge that our people need to take time away from work for reasons other than illness.

Discounted power with Meridian or Powershop

Meridian employees are entitled to a discounted rate on electricity when signing up to either Meridian or Powershop. Whichever you choose, you’ll receive preferential rates, a joining credit, and a free smart meter upgrade if you don’t have one.

Generous parental leave policy

The birth, adoption, or commencement of other ongoing care of a child is a time of great change, and we support our employees in balancing work and new family commitments. We provide leave prescribed under legislation; enhanced parental leave payment and partner leave benefits; and support in returning to work following parental leave, including spaces for breastfeeding/lactation if required.

Free counselling for you and whānau

We provide our people and their immediate family (e.g. partners, children, stepchildren) with free counselling services. These options include counselling services from Vitae, Meridian's Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) provider and one-on-one coaching sessions a qualified Neuro-Linguistic Programming Practitioner.

Buy Meridian shares and get rewarded with more

Our employee share scheme, MyShare, is a great way for our people to get their own slice of Meridian. It’s an easy way to buy Meridian shares via pay deductions totalling at least $500 a year (or up to $5000). You’ll be eligible for dividend payments each year, and if you stay in the scheme and keep your shares for three years, Meridian rewards you with free shares.

Matching employee KiwiSaver contributions up to 4%

We help you to save for your retirement or first home by matching employee KiwiSaver contributions of up to 4%. For people in some pay bands, we contribute 4% to KiwiSaver even if you only contribute 3%, to help boost your savings.  We keep matching your KiwiSaver contributions for as long as you are permanently employed by us – even after you reach 65.
