Manapōuri power station - Unit 1 and 6 update.

  • Investor news
  • Generation news

Manapōuri Unit 6 (125MW) has been taken out of service for the next six months due to issues with the transformer core. Meridian has decided to place Manapōuri Unit 6 out of service until the issue is resolved.

The transformer for Manapōuri Unit 1 has previously indicated a similar issue. Meridian will undertake a similar physical inspection of that unit as soon as possible. This will require an outage and if the same issue is found, Unit 1 will also be taken out of service for the next six months.

Six months is our best estimate at this stage of the time it may take to resolve the issues with the Unit 6 transformer.  Meridian will update Transpower’s Planned Outage Coordination Process as more information becomes available.
