About the project

Meridian has been granted resource consent for a 26-turbine wind farm north-west of Wellington city in Ohariu Valley. This project is known as Mill Creek.

The site has all the features we look for in a wind farm, including consistently strong wind. It’s expected that turbines at the site would generate electricity approximately 90 percent of the time.

Latest developments

The Environment Court granted resource consent for 26 of the 31 turbines we proposed.

Meridian has yet to make a decision about when we will build this project, but we will be working in partnership with our key stakeholders and suppliers to evaluate our options.

Renewable energy

The New Zealand Government’s aspiration is for 90 percent of electricity generation to be from renewable sources by 2025.

Why build a wind farm here?

The Mill Creek project wind farm site is located on privately-owned farms in Ohariu Valley.

The landowners chose wind farming to support the ongoing viability of their farms. It will preserve the lifestyle and rural character of the area, compared to other options such as major housing subdivision and forestry.

The landowners selected Meridian to develop and operate the wind farm because of our reputation for doing this well.
