One of the 62 wind turbines at our West Wind Farm in Makara, Wellington has suffered major blade failure. We are currently investigating the cause of the failure. There was no one working in the vicinity of the turbine when the failure occurred. The remainder of the turbines at West Wind continue to operate normally.
West Wind has 62 2.3MW Siemens turbines. The wind farm has been operating since 2009, generating enough electricity to power around 73,000 average homes annually.
