Lake Manapōuri and Lake Te Anau levels update

  • Generation news

Following an extended dry period in the Waiau catchment, both Lake Te Anau and Lake Manapōuri have entered the Low Range of the Operating Guidelines for the Levels of Lakes Manapōuri and Te Anau.

In the low range, generation output is restricted by the Manapouri-Te Anau Development Act 1963 and associated Operating Guidelines for Levels of Lakes Manapōuri and Te Anau which amongst other things require that Meridian use its best endeavours to ensure the rates of drawdown do not exceed the natural rates of drawdown averaged over four days, this being a maximum drawdown of 3cm per day for Lake Te Anau and 5 cm for Lake Manapōuri.

We are monitoring the situation very closely and Meridian’s generation offers will be adjusted accordingly.
