Meridian issues demand response exercise notice to NZAS

Meridian Energy has today issued New Zealand Aluminium Smelters Limited (NZAS) with a demand response notice under the NZAS Demand Response Agreement 2023-2024.

As a result, contract quantity under the electricity agreement between Meridian and NZAS will reduce by 10 MWh per half hour from 19 March 2024 to 29 March 2024, unless Meridian advises NZAS otherwise.

Meridian has issued the notice given transmission outages in Southland and high wholesale electricity prices at the Tiwai node. The transmission outages are scheduled to end on 22 March 2024 and if works are completed on schedule there is a high likelihood that Meridian will issue NZAS with a notice for cessation of the demand response at that earlier date.

A copy of the NZAS Demand Response Agreement 2023-2024 is available on Meridian’s website: www.meridianenergy.co.nz/about-us/investors/reports/nzas-contract
