Friend Credit Terms and Conditions

Effective from 11 November 2023 for new residential customers who join Meridian via the Friend Get Friend promotion.

1. New Meridian residential customers who are referred to Meridian by an existing Meridian residential customer via the Friend Get Friend promotion, and who then sign up their main home to Meridian's Fixed Rate Plan for a 2-year fixed term (Eligible Plan) will, subject to these terms and conditions, be eligible to receive a welcome credit (Friend Credit). The person who referred you will also be eligible to receive a referrer credit (Referrer Credit), subject to the below Referrer Credit Terms and Conditions.

2. The Friend Credit is only available to new Meridian customers who sign up their main home to an Eligible Plan and is not available in conjunction with any other Meridian offer or pricing plan, unless Meridian agrees otherwise at its discretion.

3. In order to be eligible for this offer, you must meet the following criteria:

  • a. you must be a residential consumer as listed on the national electricity registry;
  • b. you must meet Meridian’s standard customer eligibility criteria (for example: credit criteria, refer to Meridian's Standard Terms and Conditions for the Supply of Electricity for more information);
  • c. you (or anyone residing at your residence) must not have received any welcome credit or other incentive from Meridian within the 24 months prior to requesting this offer.

4. Meridian may require proof of identification or a tenancy agreement in order to verify eligibility for this offer.

5. On becoming a Meridian customer, you will be subject to Meridian's Standard Terms and Conditions for the Supply of Electricity and the terms and conditions of Meridian's Fixed Rate Plan.

6. Once you’ve successfully switched to Meridian, we will:

  • a. credit your Meridian account with your Friend Credit; and
  • b. subject to the below Referrer Credit Terms and Conditions, credit the Meridian account of the person who referred you with their Referrer Credit. Your Friend Credit will be applied towards your subsequent Meridian bills until your Friend Credit has been fully depleted.

7. If you cease to be a Meridian customer before the expiry date of your plan, we will charge up to the amount of your Friend Credit to your final bill to recover the cost to us of procuring the incentives you were given when you signed up to your plan under this offer. If you close any of your individual sites or switch any to another electricity retailer within this period, we will charge your next bill with an amount equal to the value of the Friend Credit you received for that particular site.

8. Meridian may, at its sole discretion, either decline to apply a Friend Credit or Referrer Credit, remove a Friend Credit or Referrer Credit granted, or require a refund of a Friend Credit or Referrer Credit already utilized, where it reasonably believes that you or your Referrer have not complied with the terms and conditions of this offer or are taking unfair advantage of this offer. Examples include, but are not limited to, where:

  • a. Meridian reasonably believes that a customer or other residents at a property have already received a sign up or welcome credit for that property within the last 24 months;
  • b. the same property has successively signed up numerous occupants within a 24-month period in order to claim the Friend Credit; or
  • c. where it is apparent to Meridian that the referral is not genuine.

9. The Friend Credit and Referrer Credit are only available for use for paying for electricity supplied by Meridian. The Friend Credit and Referrer Credit are not transferrable, refundable or redeemable for cash.

10. Meridian reserves the right to cancel this offer at any time without notice to you. Meridian may also vary this offer at any time by posting revised terms and conditions on our website.

11. Nothing in these terms is intended to exclude, restrict or modify a consumer's right under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993.

12. Employees of Meridian are not eligible to be referred to Meridian through this promotion, but may refer their friends and family to Meridian and be eligible to receive a Referrer Credit under (and subject to) the Referrer Credit Terms and Conditions.

Referrer Credit Terms and Conditions

Effective from 11 October 2023 for existing residential customers of Meridian who invite a friend or family member to join Meridian via the Friend Get Friend promotion.

1. Subject to these terms and conditions, you will be entitled to receive a credit to your Meridian account (Referrer Credit) for each friend or family member (Friend) you invite to join Meridian via our Friend Get Friend promotion, where your Friend meets the following criteria: 

  • a. your Friend must be a residential consumer as listed on the national electricity registry;
  • b. your Friend must meet Meridian’s standard customer eligibility criteria (for example: credit criteria, refer to Meridian's Standard Terms and Conditions for the Supply of Electricity for more information);
  • c. your Friend must not have been a Meridian customer in the 180 days prior to you requesting this offer;
  • d. your Friend (or anyone residing at their residence) must not have received any welcome credit or other incentive from Meridian within the 24 months prior to requesting their Friend Credit; and
  • e. your Friend must sign up their main home to Meridian's Fixed Rate Plan for a 2-year fixed term.

2. Your Friend will also, upon successfully switching to Meridian, be eligible to receive a welcome credit (Friend Credit), subject to the above Friend Credit Terms and Conditions. Meridian's Standard Terms and Conditions for the Supply of Electricity, and other relevant terms and conditions, will also apply to any Friend you refer to us.

3. To be eligible for this offer, you must be an existing Meridian residential customer.

4. Your Referrer Credit will be credited to your Meridian account once your Friend has successfully switched to Meridian. Your Referrer Credit will be applied towards your subsequent Meridian bills until your Referrer Credit has been fully depleted. Your Friend's Meridian Account will also be credited with their Friend Credit once they’ve switched to Meridian.

5. If your Friend switches away from Meridian within 2 years of becoming a Meridian customer, they will be required to pay the value of the Friend Credit they received back to Meridian as per the above 'Friend Credit Terms and Conditions'. This amount will be charged to their final bill.

6. 10. Meridian never wants to spam anyone. We run our Friend Get Friend promotions solely to allow our customers to refer their friends and family. By using our Friend Get Friend link sharing function, you confirm that the recipients of the link have consented to receiving this message from you.

11. Employees of Meridian may refer their friends and family to Meridian and be eligible to receive a Referrer Credit under (and subject to) these Terms and Conditions, but are not eligible to be referred to Meridian and receive a Friend Credit under the Friend Credit Terms and Conditions.
