Our Solar Plan offers a guaranteed buy-back rate of 17c/kWh for 5 years and new customers receive a $300 power credit.

If you’re an existing Meridian customer and want to switch to the Solar Plan, you can, regardless of the current plan they’re on.

Find the solar buy-back plan that’s right for you

If you generate more electricity than you use, you can export the excess. This is called buy-back. The price we pay you per kWh is the buy-back rate.

Meridian purchases the exported electricity at a rate of 12 or 17 cents per kWh, dependent on your plan, and applies it as a credit on your next electricity bill.

We can also provide buyer-created tax invoices – a real time-saving benefit for GST-registered customers.

Here’s the buy-back rates for our different plans.

Meridian solar plans Term Solar buy-back rate
Solar Plan 5 years 17c/kWh guaranteed
Variable Plan No set term 12c/kWh**
Fixed Plan 2 years 12c/kWh**
Bach plan 2 years 12c/kWh**
EV Plan 2 years 12c/kWh**

These buy-back rates apply to all solar panel systems with a rated capacity of up to 10kW. If you’re interested in equipment that generates more than 10kW, talk to us about your options.

Rates do not include GST. If you’re GST registered, we’ll need your GST number when you sign up.

For more information read our Onsite Renewable Generation Terms and Conditions, which apply to the generation of electricity on your premises and the exporting of electricity into the network.

Note that some network companies charge for exporting energy back to us. Your pricing plan will include this variable rate network export charge if it applies in your network area.

** These rates are variable during the Term and subject to change with 30 days' notice.

Get set up for solar with an import/export meter

To get set up for solar, you need an import/export meter installed. An import/export meter has two registers. One to record the energy you use and the other to track the electricity that is exported back to the national grid. We’ll work alongside you or your solar provider to ensure the right meter is installed.

If you’re ready to install an import/export meter, or have a general solar enquiry, get in touch with us today.
