Meridian is thrilled to announce we've renewed our partnership with the Department of Conservation supporting Kākāpō Recovery until at least 2025.
We’ve been proud to be National Partner since 2016 and over this time, kākāpō numbers have doubled, with 252 known birds after a successful 2021/2022 breeding season.
We’ve also helped fund the innovative Smart Egg, had staff volunteer each breeding season and countless engineers on island to make sure DOC huts have reliable and safe electricity supply that is critical to the success of the programme. This work includes helping phase out fossil fuels and replacing them with hydro and solar systems, so the DOC team can harness the sun and water for their power needs.
Along with support from Ngāi Tahu, we look forward to putting our energy in and continuing to help bring this taonga species back from the brink of extinction. Together we have the power to make a difference!
