Why is the Four Free Plan ending?

We launched Four Free to better understand how customers use and shift their energy - insights that will help shape the way we deliver flexible energy options in the future. 

Your involvement has helped us learn, improve, and move closer to our goal of making energy simpler and fairer for all New Zealanders. As a Four Free customer, you’ll be the first to know when we launch new flexible plans. 

When does the Four Free Plan end, and what happens next?

Four Free will finish on 31 October 2025. From 1 November 2025, your account will automatically move to Meridian’s Freedom Plan, unless you choose a different plan before then.

What are my new rates on the Freedom Plan?

We sent you an email on Tuesday 30 September with your new Freedom Plan rates.

You can also check them anytime by entering your address in our online price estimate tool.

Do I get a credit when I move to the Freedom Plan?

Yes - as a thank you, you’ll receive a $20 credit each month for the next 12 months. That’s double our standard offer. 

If you switch to another electricity retailer during this period, your monthly credits will stop from the date you leave Meridian. 

Can I still change my free hours before the change?

Yes. You can update your free hours in the online portal until 11.59pm, Friday 3 October 2025. After that, your hours will stay fixed until the plan ends on 31 October. 

Can I still see my usage and bills?

Yes. You’ll still be able to view all your Four Free data and bills in your online account. 

Closer to the end of October, we’ll let you know how to pay your final Four Free bill and log in to your new Freedom account. 

What if I want flexible hours again?

Our new technology platform will allow us to launch even better flexible plans in the future. As a Four Free customer, you’ll be the first to know when they’re available.
