Te Rahui is a 400-megawatt solar farm located in Rangitāiki, 45km southeast of Taupō. It’s a 50-50 joint venture between Meridian and Nova Energy, who are leading the construction of the project.
Once complete, Te Rahui will deliver 400MW of renewable energy – enough to power approximately 100,000 homes.
The project site is a 1,022ha dairy farm located in Rangitāiki, southeast of Taupō. It’s being completed in two stages, each involving the construction of a 200MW solar plant. Stage one is under construction, and stage two is consented but subject to Board approval. Offtake will be shared 50-50 between Meridian and Nova.
Enabling works began on stage one of Te Rahui in early 2025, with construction beginning in earnest in early 2026.
Commissioning of the solar farm is expected to begin in 2027.
Construction of the solar farm substation – a key part of the infrastructure that connects a solar plant to the electrical grid – is also underway.
The substation is expected to be completed and connected to the national grid by late November 2026.
