Need to reseal your electricity meter? Here’s what it means, why it’s important, and how to get started.
What's a meter reseal?
If your meter has been opened to carry out electrical work, it’ll need to be resealed, recertified, and tagged to meet safety and compliance standards.
Is this the right job for you?
A meter reseal is required when the electricity meter has been opened to carry out electrical work. This includes situations like:
Wiring upgrades where the meter was opened, but not removed
Fault repairs where the meter may have been bridged to restore power urgently, such as after-hours hot water faults
Any other instance where the meter has been accessed and the original seal removed
In these cases, the meter must be resealed, tagged, and recertified to meet safety and compliance standards.
Note: If the meter has been removed at all, or your switchboard has been upgraded, please see meter relocation instead.
Note: The fees above are those charged by Meridian. Additional charges may apply from your network provider or other contractors - they will discuss these with you directly.
