    Fixed rate plan

    Choose a fixed rate plan if:

    • you want some certainty to help you budget, even if it means you pay a bit more now than you would on variable pricing
    • you’re happy to sign up to a contract of up to three years. (You can break the contract for an early exit fee of $100, and you won’t be charged if you’re just moving.)

    You just need to know that if any government or regulatory charges change, we may pass those changes on to you. For more information, read our Fixed Rate Plan terms and conditions which will apply if you choose a fixed rate plan.

    How fixed rate pricing works

    With fixed rate pricing, your Meridian charge and network charge each month is fixed for the term of the contract. The Meridian charges cover the price of energy, and our retail services like meter reading, billing and customer support. Only government and regulatory charges like GST, and the Electricity Authority levy can change.

    Variable pricing

    Choose variable pricing if:

    • you don’t want to be tied into a contract

    • you’re happy for your rates to change (with 30 days’ notice).

    You can change from variable pricing to any available fixed pricing at any time.

    How variable pricing works

    With variable pricing, you have no fixed term contract. We can change rates by giving you 30 days’ notice.

    Discounts for prompt payment

    On all our plans, you’ll get a discount if you pay on time and in full.

  • Does Meridian supply gas?

    We don’t currently supply gas to our customers. We know that many New Zealanders use gas at home and work, but our commitment to generating from renewable resources means we don’t provide gas. We don’t have any affiliate businesses whom we offer gas through.

  • How can I switch to Meridian?

    Switching happens in four easy steps:

    1. You tell us you’re joining Meridian
    2. We let your existing power company know you’re switching
    3. Your existing power company lets us know your final meter reading, which may be an estimate
    4. You’re switched. It’s that easy.

    You can expect at least one more bill from your existing provider, but we won’t charge any switching fees or bonds, except in exceptional circumstances in accordance with our standard terms and conditions for the supply of electricity.
