Three-year graduate programme
If you're a civil, mechanical or electrical engineering student in your final year of study we'd love to help kick-start your career with experience in the electricity industry.
Our three-year graduate programme offers:
an individual development plan tailored to you
on-the-job training mentoring and support
the chance to work with leading engineers in world-class renewable assets
rotations across our main sites in Wellington, Christchurch and Twizel.
What is your job title? My name is John Evans, I am a Graduate Mechanical Engineer
What does that mean?It means I basically I get a 3 year tiki tour around the country, check out all the awesome assets and learn a bit on the way.
What's the best part of working on Meridian's graduate programme? Definitely the people and the assets, it's just awesome to be working on some serious infrastructure and some really hard case guys. At the moment I am working my way through the hydro assets which is largely in the Mackenzie basin and down in Fiordland, and also based up in Christchurch with the engineering team up there. Being in Twizel with a few other grads and summer students we have a good deal of fun. We have the water ski in the water in about 10 minutes from the office, it doesn't get any better than that.
Consider our three-year apprenticeship programme if you’re completing a pre-trade certificate in mechanical engineering or high voltage electrical engineering. You can complete your qualification while working for New Zealand’s largest renewable energy generator at iconic hydro and wind assets like Manapouri, the Waitaki hydro scheme or West Wind.
We select applications from students with relevant pre-trade certificates from polytechnics and institutes of technology across New Zealand.
If you’re studying engineering and in your second-to-last year, our summer internship is the programme for you. Get a taste of what it’s like to work at Meridian with our internship programme, which runs from mid-November to mid-February. We hire around three interns each year to work across our main sites in Wellington, Christchurch and Twizel.
As a summer intern, you’ll be active in all aspects of the company. The programme will push you to develop real life business and technical skills. Working as a summer intern is a great way of working towards securing a graduate position with Meridian.
