Office supplies are a great opportunity to reflect your organisation’s values and ethics in what and how you buy. Don't be scared to challenge your suppliers – what are they doing to be more sustainable? Are they using recycled products and brands with an environmentally-conscious approach? It also helps to plan ahead, by finding out who uses what and monitoring this as it will help you factor in when stocks are likely to run out.
Look out for these paper options: Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC), Carbon Neutral Certified, carboNZero. Get a shredder for disposing of confidential documents and have a paper recycling bin nearby.
Choose cleaning products that are kind to the environment and people and make sure your cleaners do too. Choose soap, hand towel and toilet roll dispensers that manage consumption.
Most offices provide hot drinks, milk and sugar. Select local, Fairtrade and organic wherever possible. Provide a good range of reusable cups and a dishwasher.
What we do
No waste bins
We don’t have any waste bins at Meridian. We use central recycling and waste units that separate rubbish, recycling and compost. It encourages employees to think about what they’re throwing away and significantly reduces the amount of rubbish we produce.
We use sustainably sourced office consumables and are a Fairtrade Certified workplace, meaning all of our kitchen consumables are Fairtrade Certified.
Energy efficiency at work
Focusing on energy efficiency is the fastest way to improve your bottom line and reduce your environmental impact.
