Homes should be smarter
We think you should be able to lock your front door from the comfort of your bed. Your home should save you money by turning off the lights for you when you leave, and you should be able to see what’s happening at home from your phone.
We want homes to be more sustainable, and smart homes to be accessible to all.
We've partnered with leading international smart home brands, with a focus on making things simple and accessible to the general public of New Zealand.
Safe & Secure
Smart security devices like cameras are great because they usually connect right to your wifi, and so don't need any extra technology or hardware other than the camera itself - and because they're smart they can do clever things like alert you when you're not home to specific things they see, or loud noises they hear.
There are also smart safety devices like smoke & carbon monoxide alarms, that have the ability to alert you when you're not home, test themselves automatically, and can turn other things on when they detect an unsafe situation - like turning your smart lights on when they detect smoke.
Control your heating & cooling
Smart thermostats or remotes allow you to control your heating and cooling right from your phone, and because they're smart they can take into account things you might not think about - like the weather, humidity and other factors.
It means you can come home to a warm or cool house, but also means you can be super efficient with your energy usage and potentially save you money.
Many smart devices will also learn from your feedback and habits, and automatically adjust for you, so you find you don't need to adjust the temperature as much.
Make your lighting smarter
Smart lighting is energy efficient (being LED) as well as giving you the ability to control any light in your home from your phone, or using your voice.
Create presets and switch between them
It gives you the ability to create presets, like having one for watching a movie, one for reading etc, and since every light is dimmable, you can control the mood to match how you feel.
Automate your lights
One of the awesome benefits as well is the ability to automate your lights, so having them turn on at sunset, when you arrive home, or even simulate that you're home when you're away on holiday.
With or without a hub?
Some brands like Philips hue require a hub to be plugged into your modem/router, which is what controls your lights - whereas some other brands like LIFX connect directly to your wifi.
Lights that don't require a hub are great if you're looking to just have a few colour changing bulbs in your home, or you have wifi covering everywhere you'd like to put a bulb. Otherwise using a hub has the advantage of each bulb talking to each other in what's called a 'mesh network', meaning each bulb just has to be in range of another bulb, and doesn't need to be in range of your Wifi (great for outside or in a garage).
